🌍 AI-Powered Environmental Impact Forecasting
Can artificial intelligence help us better understand the environmental impact of products? Within GEAR-UP, researchers are combining Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies with AI to develop new approaches for forecasting environmental impacts across product lifecycles. By integrating experimental, simulation and lifecycle data, the project is developing predictive models capable of estimating CO₂ emissions, circularity performance and other environmental indicators. How can manufacturers better understand the variability of recycled materials? By improving the prediction of material behaviour, defect formation and performance variability, these models can support more reliable engineering decisions and facilitate the wider adoption of recycled materials in additive manufacturing. How can additive manufacturing processes adapt to recycled materials? Within GEAR-UP Project, simulation-driven approaches are being used to optimise additive manufacturing technologies, including Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Directed Energy Deposition and Material Extrusion. The project investigates how process parameters can be adjusted to account for material variability while maintaining manufacturing quality and performance.
